BUS1

The external bus interface provides a high-speed parallel bus to external
peripherals and daughter cards. The bus operates in asynchronous 16-bit and
32-bit mode

BUS2

Extends the BUS1 signals to 32 bit bus width. The serial interface
provides a glueless connection to industry-standard A/D and D/A converters.

DSP

high performance general-purpose floating-point DSP:
Texas Instruments TMS320C6747

close

Emulator Interface

An in-circuit emulator interface for DSP debugging,
compatible with all Texas Instruments, Spectrum Digital,
and other third party in-circuit emulators.

SDRAM

SDRAM can be used for both data and program code.
Besides direct CPU access, DMA transfers are supported between peripherals and SDRAM, and between DSP internal memory and SDRAM.

close

FLASH Memory

A nonvolatile memory to store application programs, user data, logfiles, and
board configuration. The DSP by default bootloads its application program from the
Flash Memory. Permanently stored in the Flash are the D.Module2.BIOS functions
and the Setup Utility, a resident program for field updates via USB or RS232.

UART and Asynchronous Serial Interfaces

Asynchronous serial communication interfaces are an industry standard
to communicate with process control equipment or a host computer, either
via point-to-point connections (RS232 or RS422), or via a network/bus
topology (RS485).
The D.Module2 Setup-Utility, a field maintenance tool resident in the Flash
Memory, uses the RS232 or USB interface to communicate with any PC.

High-Speed USB Peripheral Interface

USB is used as a fast data link to a host PC to exchange data in realtime,
modify signal processing parameters, upload application program updates, etc.
The D.Module2 Setup-Utility, a field maintenance tool resident in the Flash
Memory, uses the RS232 or USB interface to communicate with any PC.

EMC

Signal integrity and EMC radiation have been carefully considered
during the D.Module2 series design:

Local bus

The local bus decouples the asynchronous on-board peripherals from
the high-speed synchronous DRAM and the external bus interface.

Connectors

The D.Module2 uses industry standard IEEE1386 high-density connectors. The boards are self-stacking without needing a backplane. A typical standalone module stack consists of a DSP module, one or more data acquisition modules, and an optional networking module.
These boards interconnect the top and bottom connectors 1:1 to route signals and busses through the module stack. FPGA daugther cards can break this connection to insert the FPGA into the signal processing chain, typically between data acquisition and DSP.

Please click the connector on the module's top side for specific information.

100Base-Tx / 100Base-Fx Ethernet Interface

The TMS320C6747 built-in Ethernet Controller and external PHY,
with a 2-port switch, combined with the D.SignT.TCP/IP
zero-copy stack provide a high-speed communication and networking
interface with minimum DSP resource consumption.

Port0 is connected to on-board magnetics, Port1 can be used
with external magnetics or a Fiber Transceiver.

An evaluation license of the D.SignT.TCP/IP stack is
included with the DS.C6747 development base package.
For OEMs an unlimited OEM license is available.

D.Module2.BIOS

The BIOS provides 'C' compatible programming support for on-board peripherals.
BIOS functions are permanently stored in the Flash Memory and are available to
the User program at runtime.
The BIOS effectively encapsulates the module hardware - component and silicon
revision changes do not affect the User program.

D.Module2.Setup Utility

The Setup-Utility is a field maintenance tool, permanently stored in the Flash Memory.
It communicates with a PC via USB or RS232 without needing special programming
tools or an in-circuit emulator.
The Setup Utility can be invoked manually at module reset/power-on or called at
any time from your application program.
