D.Modules are designed as a standalone platform for signal processing applications. The design goal was to provide a universal DSP "mainboard" which integrates all the basic components, circuits and interfaces required for signal processing applications. Like your Personal Computer's mainboard, a D.Module provides the processor, fast memory, serial and parallel interfaces, standardized "expansion slots", Flash Memory for nonvolatile storage (your "harddisk"), and a BIOS
Our Modules are widely used in industrial control, automation and scientific
research applications. Performance, reliability, straightforward system
integration, and long-term availability are key features of these modules.
The D.Module.BIOS encapsulates the board hardware, handles all initialization
tasks, and provides a programming interface for the on-board peripherals.
Users don't have to struggle with hardware programming, but concentrate on the
actual task: implementing the signal processing algorithms.
BIOS and the Setup Utility also provide ready-to-use solutions for boot load,
in field and remote program updates, logic reprogramming,
and installation-specific configuration files - vital features for service-friendly
and easy to maintain end products.
As with a Personal Computer you add the required data acquisition devices and additional communications peripherals, and the system is ready to go. Excellent system adaptability is provided by the integration of reconfigurable logic: At least 16 I/O signals are user-programmable and can be configured to a variety of interfaces like bit-programmable I/O to SPI, I2C, quadrature encoder interfaces, PWM outputs, etc. - even surpassing the versatility of most microcontrollers.
The D.Module DSP boards are equipped with a high performance DSP, fast memories, Flash memory, a user-programmable CPLD, supervisor circuit, and UART. All busses and peripheral interfaces are routed to 2.54mm pitch connectors. The external bus allows to connect data acquisition, I/O, and communication daughter cards. D.Module peripherals can be mounted piggyback on the DSP module. You may also build your own carrier board including application specific I/O. The compact size allows to mount two modules (or module stacks) side by side on a Eurocard board (160x100 mm), leaving ample space for additional connectors.
The new D.Module2 family refines the D.Module DSP board family with even higher
processing power, on-board USB2.0 interface, dual-channel UART, advanced BIOS,
external bus transfer rates up to 500M Bytes/sec (ideally suited to interface
with FPGAs), and high-density connectors, while maintaining the same form factor
and self-stacking design.

The Spectrum Digital eZdsp™ and DSK modules are stand alone modules that
allow users examine and evaluate certain characteristics of Texas Instruments
digital signal processors (DSP) to determine if this DSP meets their application
requirements. This eZdsp™ and DSK modules have on-board JTAG emulation
scan controllers.
The board is interfaced with the host computer via USB or parallel port.
Therefore, the module may be operated without additional development
tools such as a JTAG emulator. Furthermore, the module is an excellent
platform to develop, demonstrate, and run software on TI's DSPs. The eZdsp™
and DSK modules allows full speed verification of DSP code. Expansion connectors
are provided for any necessary evaluation circuitry or peripherals not provided
on the shipped configuration.
DSK and eZdsp™ boards are bundled with a special Code Composer Studio
edition which is fully functional, but debugging is limited to the
DSK or eZdsp™ platform only.
