Ethernet Peripheral Daughter Card
The D.Module.91C111 connects your D.Module DSP Computer Board to an Ethernet LAN. This enables you to remotely control and maintain your DSP system, and provides a high-speed communication path for data exchange. An optimized TCP/IP protocol stack is available, which has been carefully tailored to the special needs of DSP systems.
LAN connectivity opens the door to a wide variety of new application areas and frequently demanded features to enhance existing systems:
- anything-over-IP data transport
- remote control and monitoring your application
- simplify maintenance (program and parameter updates via FTP)
- data base access (e.g. for biometric systems like face recognition)
- enhanced debugging and algorithm development (transmit data in real-time to MATLAB®, Simulink®, LabView®, etc. for analysis)
- distributed systems using readily existing network installations
Besides the Ethernet Controller the D.Module.91C111 is equipped with a real-time clock (RTC) and a MultiMediaCard (MMC/SD) interface. The RTC is often required to add time stamps to network messages or logfile entries. Periodic and Alarm Interrupts can be generated too. The MMC/SD provides a convenient solution to store HTML code and images for browser-based application interfaces, and can also be used as a non-volatile mass storage device for data logging.
The TCP/IP protocol software has been specifically designed for DSP needs: No
underlying operating system is required (although it can of course be used with
a RTOS). Data memory requirements have been minimized, and no additional
resources like interrupts or timers are required.
Supported protocols are DHCP, ARP, RARP, DNS, IP, ICMP, UDP, and TCP. Also
included is a FTP server, with special functions to program the DSP module's
Flash Memory for program and parameter updates. A HTTP server framework is
provided too, which passes the client's commands and parameters to a
user-definable callback function, hence enabling fully dynamic HTML contents.
